Mayhem is goal of voting misinformation spread, experts say
This election season, Americans have been exposed to a surge of unfounded claims about voter fraud, the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, even the actual date of Election Day.
Dean Nelson, founder and director of the journalism program at Point Loma Nazarene University, said mayhem is the goal.
“The intent is to create chaos and mistrust," he said. "If you can create chaos and mistrust and then you have a leader who says you can trust me and only me, then you can see the political machine just kind of working there.”
