News InternRachel is an intern for “KPBS Midday Edition.” She enjoys helping to produce segments about education and San Diego culture. Her favorite part of the internship is learning something new every day from both the staff and the guests on the show. She recently graduated magna cum laude from University of California San Diego, with a B.A. in communications and a minor in international studies. Rachel loves to experience new things, but finds her niche in news, politics, and travel. She plans on teaching English in Thailand before going to graduate school for a master’s degree in international journalism.

The San Diego Unified School District is facing an estimated $114 million budget deficit for next academic year. The deficit could be cut in half if voters approve tax extensions in a statewide special election the governor has proposed for June.
