Mike Birbiglia's new film "Don't Think Twice" (expanding to more cities on Aug. 12) looks to an improv group experiencing some growing pains.
Before I get to this week's podcast let me apologize for taking an impromptu vacation after Comic-Con. I had fully intended to devote a podcast to that glorious celebration of pop culture but this year I was working as a field producer for Comic-ConHQ and I had zero time for anything else. So I wasn’t able to talk with celebrities, attendees, or exhibitors but I still had a great time. I got to watch make up artist Warren Dion Smith turn a man into an Orc in less than an hour and I got to meet Elvira when Comic-ConHQ did an interview with her.
But now it is back to the real world and back to my podcast. This week I am excited to highlight the new comedy-drama by Mike Birbiglia called "Don’t Think Twice." You may know him from his many endeavors including the feature film "Sleepwalk With Me" or his regular contributions to "This American Life."
"Don’t Think Twice" looks to an improv group as one member is on the verge of breaking out into the mainstream. Improv, Birbiglia explained is a different beast than stand up because it "involves a team" rather than a solitary individual on stage.
Mike Birbiglia came to San Diego in June to sneak preview the film and he stopped by KPBS for an interview that was also videotaped for TV.
