Oceanside Police Department and city officials showed up Tuesday morning to begin the clean up of the large homeless encampment off South Oceanside Boulevard. They were able to offer 30 motel vouchers for people wanting that option.
Michael Gossman, the assistant city manager for the city of Oceanside, was on site as the clean up began.
“We certainly don't have enough hotel vouchers for everybody. What we are doing though is partnering with the county, with nonprofits, with churches, to try to find other shelter for them,” said Gossman.

He said another option being explored is a “safe area” where people could camp, as well as a transitional homeless shelter in the city of Oceanside.
Gossman said the transitional homeless shelter is expected to be established this year and will have wrap-around supportive services.
Oceanside Police helped transport people to the hotels along with their belongings and said the clean up was peaceful.
Since there were not enough vouchers for everyone at the encampment, the clean up is expected to last all week as the remainder of the people are relocated.
