Solana Beach Post Office Reopens After Suspicious Package Found To Be Harmless

A suspicious package that closed the Solana Beach post office was determined to be harmless.

The package was reported sometime before 10 a.m. San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies closed the building as a precaution and cordoned off the area while they investigated.

At about noon, deputies discovered that the box simply contained car parts. They learned a man had come to the post office before it opened, decided to leave and accidentally left the box behind.

A bomb squad never came to the scene and the post office was reopened.

This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
