San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne confirmed the death of another SDPD officer on Monday.
"One of our own officers, Officer David Hall, had tragically taken his own life," Lansdowne said.
Police say the emergency call came from Hall's wife. Hall was found dead in his backyard.
Hall, a 14 year SDPD veteran, had been reassigned to administrative duties during his pending felony-DUI charges from a hit-and-run incident last February.
Chief Lansdowne said Officer Hall was being counseled by SDPD's newly formed Wellness Unit.
"Unfortunately, even with the help and support provided, Officer Hall unexpectedly decided to take his own life," Lansdowne added.
Just last week, former SDPD Det. Donna Williams and her daughter were laid to rest. Williams' son faces murder charges in their stabbing deaths.
