SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An original organizer of the effort to recall San Diego Mayor Bob Filner announced Tuesday that she has resigned as co-chairwoman of the campaign, but will remain active in coordinating volunteers.
Elisa Brent said in a posting on her Facebook account that her decision was "due to the complete breakdown in communication between me and Michael Pallamary,'' who also has helped run the campaign.
Brent said "the breaking point'' came when her reputation as the volunteer coordinator was questioned online.
"My reputation is now being discounted as merely a volunteer when I am not just a volunteer -- I am also a business woman,'' Brent said. "It is time for me to part ways.''
Brent said she has developed a database of volunteers in all nine City Council districts.
The effort between Brent, who originally described herself to the media as a housewife, and Pallamary, a land use consultant, began with a Facebook page in June that eventually attracted more than 9,500 "likes.''
Fueled by allegations of sexual harassment and shakedowns of developers, the campaign has taken on area political professionals who plan to circulate petitions beginning Sunday.
Brent said she would continue to coordinate volunteers, but that she and Pallamary have "irreconcilable differences.''
