Reactions to California Governor Jerry Brown's new budget proposal continue to pour in. Jon Coupal with the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association said he doesn't think voters will approve new taxes - as the governor's plan assumes.
"California voters do want good public services at a fair price," said Coupal. "But unfortunately, they see what the state government spends its money on now and they're not happy. They see the over-spending; they see the pension abuses; they see the welfare fraud."
But Jean Ross with the California Budget Project feels even with a mix of taxes and cuts, the proposed reductions would be too painful.
"Programs that take care of kids, vulnerable adults, people with severe disabilities - which are about a quarter of the state budget overall - would take about three-quarters of the proposed spending cuts," said Ross.
Brown's spending plan includes four billion dollars in cuts and relies on seven billion dollars in new tax revenues.
