Last week, President Trump was still hurling insults on Twitter, saying he wouldn’t pay to call up the California National Guard on the conditions set by Gov. Jerry Brown.
But the Department of Homeland Security confirmed it has an agreement with the Department of Defense. The guard is expected to begin arriving at various posts, including the border, this week.

In an emailed statement, spokesman Katie Waldman said the guard is scheduled to work with U.S. Border Patrol to provide "radio communications, motor transport operations, training administration/operations, heavy equipment operations, paralegal administration, planning, admin clerical, intelligence analysis, and surveillance camera operations."
The California National Guard already works closely with Homeland Security and other federal law enforcement. Videos posted online over the past several years show the California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force providing air support and working to eradicate illicit marijuana crops.

The governor declared they won’t be involved in immigration enforcement. Homeland Security says they will be involved with Border Patrol in “a multi-layered effort to target illicit networks trafficking in people, drugs, illegal weapons, and money,” the statement reads.
