Two Marines assigned to the Third Marine Aircraft Wing at Camp Pendleton were killed Friday when their UH-1Y Huey helicopter crashed aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms.
A news release from the 3rd MAW reports the crash took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday during a training exercise.
The military has not yet released the identities of the two fallen Marines.
3rd MAW Commanding General, Major General Michael A. Rocco, released a statement which read:
"Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the two Marines we lost in this tragic accident. We at Third Marine Aircraft Wing stand ready to provide support to their families."
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
