For little ones awaiting Christmas, it may seem like FOREVER until Santa Claus begins his journey around the globe. But the folks at NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) have their Santa Tracker website up and running - with lots of games, music, and movies to keep the kiddies busy until the big day arrives.
The website is for Santa-believers all over the world, and is available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese.
As Home Post previously reported, NORAD has been tracking Santa Claus since the 1950s:
It all started in 1955, when a local media advertisement directed children to call Santa direct – but the number was misprinted. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone rang through to the crew commander on duty at the Continental Air Defense Command Operations Center.
NORAD has carried the tradition on since the command was created in 1958.
The Colorado Springs Gazette estimates the volunteers at NORAD will get visits from 20 million Internet users, and 100,000 phone calls on Christmas Eve.
When NORAD is not tracking Santa Claus, the organization actually has quite a lot on its plate:
[NORAD] is a United States and Canada bi-national organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America.
Aerospace warning includes the detection, validation, and warning of attack against North America whether by aircraft, missiles, or space vehicles, through mutual support arrangements with other commands.
