Several military bases have cancelled their Fourth of July fireworks displays because of budget cuts due to sequestration.
The Associated Press reports Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in North Carolina, Fort Bragg Army Base (also in North Carolina), the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Georgia, Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst have all cancelled their Independence Day fireworks celebrations.
But not to fear, Southern California revelers. According to a Camp Pendleton news release, the base is still planning to hold its 23rd annual 4th of July Beach Bash at the Del Mar Beach Resort:
The Beach Bash will offer quality entertainment and recreational activities from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is open to authorized patrons and civilian guests of Marine Corps Installations West – Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment, a variety of food and drinks, an area for special guests, and a family fun zone containing interactive games and recreational activities.
The base estimates more than 45,000 Independence Day celebrants will attend the Beach Bash. Best of all - a fireworks display is planned for 9 p.m.
