Tribute Video For Gabe The Hero Dog
Home Post readers this week have been touched by the passing of Gabe the dog from cancer. Gabe was a retired military working dog who was recently named the winner of the 2012 American Humane Association Hero Dog Award.
Gabe was rescued from a Texas animal shelter and then trained by the military to be a bomb-sniffing canine. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2009. Gabe's handler, Sgt. 1st Class Charles Shuck, adopted him upon the dog's retirement.
Home Post reader Tonja DuBois wrote this tribute to Gabe:
"Heaven received its Commander in Chief of all fur babies today. I'm SO proud to know Sgt. Gabe. My prayers and love to Chuck, his Daddy. What great men they both are."
Karen (no last name given) left this comment:
"GABE THANK YOU AND CHUCK FOR YOUR SERVICE TO THIS COUNTRY. REST IN PEACE GABE, YOU AND CHUCK ARE MY HEROES"
John Robert Breazeale lovingly wrote:
"Gabe won the hearts of tens of thousands without ever meeting them in person, he was truly an amazing and lovable hero...He will be deeply missed by so very many."
And Tracy Hunt left this message:
"We have lost another hero, we need more like him and to his handler, thank you both for your dedication and service, Gabe will be missed."
I've posted a tribute video to Gabe created by someone who loved him very much.
