Slain former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle was an advocate for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD - so much so that he started a foundation called FITCO Cares to help troops make the difficult transition to civilian life.
The FITCO Cares website homepage today posted this statement in honor of Kyle:
The FITCO Cares foundation will always carry the torch to help our brave men and women who have survived combat but are still fighting to survive post traumatic stress disorder. Chris Kyle helped establish this foundation and we are committed to make sure his memory lives on forever.
It's believed Kyle was actually helping Eddie Ray Routh, the Marine veteran who has been charged with his murder, cope with his PTSD symptoms. The two men where at the Rough Creek Lodge and Resort shooting range when Routh allegedly shot Kyle and another man, Chad Littlefield, to death.
Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant told ABC News:
"Kind of have an idea that maybe that's why they were at the range, for some type of therapy that Mr. Kyle assists people with. I don't know if it's called shooting therapy, I don't have any idea but that's what little bit of information that we can gather so far."
Kyle was the author of the memoir: "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History." He leaves behind a wife and two children.
