The Pentagon has deployed USS Laboon and USS McFaul, both armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, to the coast of Libya in the wake of the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
CNN reports the United States has also sent surveillance drones to the region in an effort to hunt down jihadists who may have planned the attack against the American embassy in Libya.
According to CBS News, U.S. officials now believe the embassy deaths were part of a "well-executed attack" by jihadists linked to al Qaeda.
Home Post reported Wednesday that FAST team of Marines based in Rota, Spain was deployed to Libya to protect American interests there.
Army Gen. Carter F. Ham, commander of the U.S. Africa Command based in Germany, told American Forces Press Service:
“DOD is working closely with the White House and the State Department to provide all necessary resources to support the security of U.S. personnel in Libya."
