The Camp Pendleton Marine shot and killed Tuesday during a traffic stop at San Clemente High School has been identified by Camp Pendleton Patch as 31-year-old Sgt. Manuel Levi Loggins Jr.
The Orange County Register reports the fatal shooting took place at 4:40 a.m. in the San Clemente High School parking lot. Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino says the shooting victim drove through the school's gate and into the parking lot after the Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation. There was a confrontation, apparently, but authorities aren't giving details.
Former Marine corporal Aaron Banks - and Loggins' friend - told Camp Pendleton Patch:
Several unnamed sources told Camp Pendleton Patch that Loggins' two young daughters were in his vehicle when he was shot. Authorities have not confirmed nor denied this.
