Daughter of Camp Pendleton Marine Wins National Honor (Video)

A good news story on Home Post, for a little change of pace. Last month I posted a story about Taylor Dahl-Sims, a 17-year-old from Oceanside, California who was named Military Child of the Year by Operation Homefront. She was one of five Military Children of the Year and nabbed the award for the Marines - as for the first time Operation Homefront named a winner for each branch of the military.

Taylor helped take care of her ill newborn brother while her stepfather (based at Camp Pendleton) was deployed in Iraq. She also started North Star Group with her mother, a nonprofit which hosts baby showers for pregnant military wives.

Operation Homefront held a special ceremony last night in Washington D.C. for Taylor and the other four winners. Take a look at video from the event, courtesy of the Pentagon Channel. Yea, Taylor!

A big decision awaits some voters this April as the race for San Diego County’s Supervisor District 1 seat heats up. Are you ready to vote? Check out the KPBS Voter Hub to learn about the candidates, the key issues the board is facing and how you can make your voice heard.
