While the benefits of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 are documented, doctors are still learning how that vaccine impacts reproductive health.
While no link has been made, some women have described changes to their menstrual cycle after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. And many pregnant women are also weighing the safety of the vaccine versus the risk of contracting the virus while pregnant.
Dr. Antoni Duleba, chief of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility and professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences with UC San Diego Health, said while research is ongoing, the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risk of contracting COVID-19.

"There's very little science about it. It doesn't seem to impact the menstrual cycle at all. It seems COVID has effects on pregnancy. The COVID vaccine can cause fever and that may be an issue in very early pregnancy. COVID can actually affect males in many different ways too," Duleba said.
He joined Midday Edition Wednesday to talk about the impacts of COVID-19 and the vaccine on the reproductive health of women and men.
