In the first month of her first term in the House of Representatives, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-San Diego) has co-sponsored legislation to censure another first-term congresswoman.
Jacobs and fellow Democrat Nikema Williams of Georgia drafted the legislation to censure Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and also call on her to resign. Before the 2020 election as well as afterward, Greene has posted racist videos on Facebook, harassed survivors of the Parkland High School mass shooting and called for violence against elected Democrats, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
In an interview with KPBS Midday Edition on Monday, Jacobs said that she personally felt safe in the Capitol, but she believes it is important to hold public figures accountable for their words.
A censure resolution requires a simple majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
