James Floros, the president and CEO of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, said that last year the organization estimated that 1 in 7 San Diego County residents or 450,000 people were food insecure. This year that estimate has doubled.
Food relief organizations are in agreement that the pandemic and related unemployment is increasing the amount of food insecurity in the U.S.
One estimate predicts 54 million Americans will struggle with hunger this year, 45% more than last year.

The Food Bank and partnering organizations are trying to fill that need.
Floros joined Midday Edition on Thursday to discuss the resources available to those in need.
