Tijuana continues to top the list for the city with the highest number of reported homicides in the country, according to researchers with the Justice in Mexico program at the University of San Diego.
The number of homicides in Mexico hit an all-time high last year and major drug cartels are diversifying into international criminal enterprises.
Those are two of the findings in a new report from the Justice in Mexico program compiled by researchers at the University of San Diego. The report also finds that the city of Tijuana recorded the highest number of homicides in Mexico in 2019. And, there's no indication the violence is slowing amid the global pandemic.

David Shirk, co-author of the report and director of the Justice in Mexico program joined Midday Edition on Wednesday with some insights into the current trends affecting violence in Mexico.
