Against the backdrop of city buses, engines revving and concrete sidewalks is an urban oasis of nutrition in San Diego's Mt. Hope neighborhood.
Fruits, vegetables and herbs grow near the intersection of Market and Denby Street in the Mt. Hope Community Garden. The area is described as a food desert, a place where there are too few nearby grocery stores and fresh produce is hard to find. Until recently, the garden's future was up in the air. But after some fundraising, Project New Village, who oversees the garden, bought the land from the city.
