The California Restaurant Association is suing to stop the city of San Diego from banning polystyrene. The ban is set to go into effect on May 24.

San Diego is set to become the largest California city to ban the use and distribution within city limits of products like egg cartons, food containers, coolers, ice chests, pool or beach toys, mooring buoys and navigation markers made fully or partially of polystyrene foam, otherwise known by the commercial Dow Chemical Co. designation, Styrofoam.

David Garrick, city hall reporter for The San Diego Union-Tribune, joins Midday Edition Thursday with more on the lawsuit.
