Journalist Sandra Dibble explored that mystery for more than 25 years as a border reporter for The San Diego Union-Tribune.

She witnessed the growth of Tijuana, the years it descended into violence, its renaissance in restaurants and business and its changing relationship with the U.S. and San Diego.

Most of all, she experienced a profound respect, love and hope for Tijuana that is now reflected in her new LA Times Presents podcast from the Union-Tribune called Border City.

Dibble joined Midday Edition on Wednesday with more on her new podcast.
