A wildfire on a Lakeside-area hillside Wednesday briefly threatened homes until crews gained the upper hand on the flames.
The non-injury blaze erupted shortly before 5 p.m. off Olde Highway 80, near Amelia Drive, and prompted officials to urge more than 1,300 area households to evacuate as the flames moved toward mobile homes and other residences.
Evacuated residents were allowed to head home around 7:30 p.m, and the temporary evacuation site at El Capitan High School was shut down, sheriff's officials said.
No structural damage was reported.
Firefighters also extinguished a small brush fire off Scripps Ranch Boulevard, near Canyon Lake Drive, in Scripps Ranch, San Diego police said.
By 6 p.m., San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer had tweeted from his personal account that the fire was out.
No structural damage or injuries were reported.
