Mama’s Kitchen kicked off its 14th Annual Mama’s Pies Bake Sale Wednesday morning, shipping thousands of holiday pies to there designated locations to support those in need.

North Park resident Ina Price went to the Mission Hills pick-up location, one of 19 locations around the county, where there were more than 100 pies for customers like her.

“I have vanilla ice cream that goes with it, and it’s gonna be great, my family’s going to love it,” Price said. “And I don’t have to bake it. Mama’s Kitchen gets the money so that they can help pay for all the good stuff they do.”

Price went with a Dutch apple pie, one of several holiday pie options. The pies sell for $25, which supplies 8 meals for those in need. They are prepared by volunteers at Mama’s Kitchen in City Heights and then delivered to people with critical illnesses as part of their home-delivered meals service.

They’ve sold about 4,000 pies, enough money to supply 48,000 meals.
