The San Diego Tourism Authority on Tuesday launched an “official craft beer” for San Diego.

The beer, called, "72 and Hoppy," was jointly created by the tourism authority and Bay City Brewing, located in the Midway District.

The beer is a “session IPA” and the San Diego Tourism Authority hopes it will introduce tourists to the local brewing industry. Although they call it the “official craft beer” of San Diego, the San Diego Tourism Authority did not reach out to other local breweries before choosing Bay City Brewing.

Candice Eley, who represents the San Diego Tourism Authority, said a licensing firm approached them with Bay City already in mind.

"All the stars aligned and everyone kind of had the same idea in the same moment and we were really happy to have a partner that was interested in experimenting and trying this out,” Eley said.

Eley said the San Tourism Authority partners with the San Diego Brewers Guild, however, the guild said they did not choose Bay City Brewing, and declined to comment on its selection.
