The San Diego Padres teamed up with the county of San Diego on Tuesday to once again offer COVID-19 vaccinations. It's a one-day pop-up vaccination drive.
It’s the third time for this partnership, but this time the Padres threw in some extra incentives.
The first 150 people who got the shot at Petco Park’s Gallagher Square got a free pair of tickets to the Sept. 8 game between the Padres and the Los Angeles Angels. They also got a commemorative T-shirt.
“Anything that we can do to help entice San Diegans to get vaccinated, we’re here to do that,” Padres CEO Erik Greupner said. “I think it’s a way of keeping our community safe, a way of helping to save lives and move our region forward past this pandemic.”
All three vaccinations were offered: Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
Madeline Hake was one of the people who came to get vaccinated. She said the shot was more important than tickets or a T-shirt and had a message for others who haven’t been vaccinated.
“I think that they should take a look around at the rest of the world and see that people are fighting for this vaccine," she said. "And if they have the opportunity to go to padres stadium and get it for free, then I think that people should take advantage of that opportunity.”
Petco Park served as one of the county’s vaccination super station earlier this year, until the start of the Padres’ season.
