In Chula Vista, first responders are delivering COVID-19 vaccinations to seniors just steps away from their homes and, in some cases, bringing them to homebound residents.
Part of Operation Immunity, Chula Vista Fire paramedics and EMT's were giving shots in the community center of Terry’s Mobile Home Park in Chula Vista Wednesday.
"It’s great," said Myrna Sallan who got her second dose. "It’s wonderful to have this service done here for all the seniors."
Right now, seniors 65 and older and health care workers are eligible for vaccination appointments, but not everyone can drive to a get one.
"(Seniors) might not otherwise get their vaccination if we didn't come to them," said Chula Vista Fire Captain Linda D'Orsi.
Residents like Sung Ja Oh said she was unsure where to get a vaccination until hearing of this pop-up a short walk from her front door.
"I just appreciate they come here and help us out so we don't have to worry about going somewhere," Oh said. "A lot of people can't drive — the people who live here."

Teams were prepared to deliver around 200 vaccines Wednesday and be back in a few weeks to deliver second doses. Operation Immunity is a partnership between Chula Vista Fire and San Diego County. D'Orsi said the department was eager to help out.
"We definitely wanted to get involved. We wanted to be at the forefront and we’re one of the first to do this," she said. "We’ve done four or five, at least five separate complexes and have more to do, depending on how many vaccinations are given to us."
Homebound seniors over 65 in Chula Vista can call 619-476-2397 to schedule a vaccination appointment.
