A new COVID-19 vaccination site is up and running in the South Bay at the Imperial Beach Civic Center.
The facility, opened on Friday, is run by San Diego County. A spokesperson said staff were planning on administering around 300 doses per day, eventually scaling up to 500. Those vaccinated here will need to return in three weeks for the second and final dose.
"Right now we are focusing on our Phase 1A participants and those are health care workers," said Kim Forrester who helps run vaccine operations for the County of San Diego.

She said they also include people living at "long term care facilities, skilled nursing facilities both for staff and residents and anyone who could potentially be a vaccinator. So paramedics nurses and pharmacists."
Those who qualify for a vaccination can sign up for an appointment through the county's website. The site is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Just this week officials gave the go-ahead to start vaccinating those ages 65 and over — depending on supply. While some health care systems like UC San Diego Health have begun giving doses to seniors, the county is not there yet.
"I think people are very excited to get it. We have had some our seniors show up and they are disappointed when they are not able to get it. But we hope to get to them soon," Forrester said.
