A North County program that has helped more than 200 veterans since it was launched in 2010 is getting new digs.
The new Interfaith Community Services Veteran and Family Resource Center will have 32 beds, including 20 for homeless veterans who need post-operative care. It will be housed in a two-story medical office building in Escondido.
Interfaith's Executive Director Greg Anglea said his program gives veterans the help they need.
“But right now we’re operating in disparate apartments that we rent throughout the community," Anglea said. "We really needed a location where all of the men and women we serve could be together, along with our nurses, our social workers, and our support staff.”
A $550,000 gift from philanthropists Tom and Dorothy Hawthorne provided the seed money for the new facility.
Interfaith still needs to raise nearly $2 million to complete the center.
