Covered California officials say only 31 percent of new enrollees in the health insurance exchange this year have gone through the process on their own. The rest have received help.
Besides Covered California's call center, there are a number of in-person options.
The exchange has more than 300 community storefronts statewide, including nine in San Diego County, where consumers can get enrollment help for free.
Certified enrollment counselors are also available at community clinics throughout the county. In addition, there are numerous private insurance agents who can help select a health plan.
Names, addresses and operating hours are searchable on Covered California’s website.
Exchange officials report 144,000 Californians selected a health plan in the first month of the current open enrollment period, which ends Feb. 15. Since Nov. 15, 216,423 state residents have enrolled in Medi-Cal.
