Eight years after North County voters approved its funding, the new Palomar Hospital in Escondido is scheduled to open for business in mid-August. Palomar Hospital officials in Escondido offered a sneak peek of their brand new facility. From the outside, it looks like a Las Vegas resort.
The stylish eleven-story Palomar Hospital sits on the top of a bluff, with panoramic views of the surrounding foothills.
All of the patient rooms are private and spacious. Every room, including those in the intensive care unit, have large windows with a view of the mountains or a garden.
Palomar's Chief Nurse Executive Lorie Shoemaker said the design elements aren't just for aesthetics.
"Well actually, there's a lot of research out there now that says that patients who have access to light and nature, actually require less pain medication, they actually do better, they go home faster," she said.
Nurses will be stationed at computer work terminals directly outside of patient rooms, to provide quicker and better access.
