The link between soda and obesity is getting more attention in California. A state senator from Los Angeles says he plans to hold hearings on the connection soon.

The link between soda and obesity is getting more attention in California. A state senator from Los Angeles says he plans to hold hearings on the connection soon.

State Senator Alex Padilla says California should do a better job of educating the public about the health effects of too many soft drinks.

Cheryl Moder directs the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative. She says kids know what's good for them. But she says it's not just a matter of making the right choices.

"If their environments, both their physical environment as well as our social norms don't support those healthy choices, then it's difficult, and in some cases impossible, for them to make those choices that we teach them to make," Moder says.

Earlier this week, UCLA researchers revealed nearly two out of three teens drink at least one soft drink a day.
