San Diego Zoo Says New Baby Jaguar Is Boy

It's a baby boy jaguar for the San Diego Zoo.

Veterinarians confirmed the sex of its newest cub during a routine examination Tuesday, spokeswoman Jenny Mehlow said.

The 19-day-old jaguar weighed in at 4 pounds, 8 ounces, Mehlow said in a statement.

The jaguar, born on March 12 at the Harry and Grace Steele Elephant Odyssey exhibit, made his public debut Saturday. He's the third cub for mother, Nindiri, and joins brother, Tikal, and sister, Maderas. Both were born in 2012 but are on loan to other zoos.

Jaguars living in north, central and South America can weigh more than 300 pounds. While they can live up to 20 years in the zoo, their numbers are declining in the wild because hunters sell their fur, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

He’s been master of ceremonies for the American Red Cross, VA Medical Center San Diego, Urban League, San Diego Office of Emergency Services and numerous foundations. Brown is also a voice actor for movie, documentary, television, radio and Internet projects.
