When San Diego State University students left for winter break in December, the Aztec men's basketball team had a 12-0 record and had risen to 15 in the Associated Press Top-25 poll.
A month later, they're coming back with the team at 20-0 — one victory away from a school record — and up to the #4 spot in the AP poll.
To say the least, there is a good vibe on campus.
"I think the atmosphere is completely different than last year just because there is so much hype with the team being undefeated and everything," said SDSU sophomore Jessie Dombrowski. "The games are sold out, like the atmosphere is really good."
The last time the team started a season this well was in 2010-11, when current NBA star Kawhi Leonard helped take the team to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Junior Maxwell Johnson went to his first Aztecs game this season and is now a rabid fan.
"You're the underdog right like you see Duke, you see Oregon, you see these big names you see San Diego State — you're like when did we get up there?" Johnson said. "We just started climbing up the ladder and it's incredible. It's something that you get to show off to your friends back home that just don't get that kind of experience. It honestly could be like a once in a lifetime experience."
Sophomore Jacob Heim was at Tuesday's home game against Wyoming — the fifth straight sellout — that put the Aztecs at 20-0.
"The atmosphere is way doper than last year, it was a lot more lit this year definitely," Heim said. "I have to say last year not as many people went."
Heim said tickets are getting hard to come by.
"People are trying to get people to get tickets from them — everybody wants them," he said.
The team goes for 21-0 on Sunday in a road game against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
