San Diego State students who are members of the school's fraternities and sororities organized a week-long program to raise awareness around sexual violence.
According to media reports, almost 2,000 people attended the first event in the series on Monday night, featuring speaker and advocate Jessica Yaffa. Yaffa is with No Silence, No Violence, a non-profit organization devoted to sexual assault and domestic violence education.
The program is called "Join Us: A Sexual Violence Prevention and Awareness Series," and it includes film screenings and panel discussions.
The school's Greek community came under fire in November, 2014 when fraternity members reportedly harassed protesters at an anti-rape march. Delta Sigma Phi fraternity was shut down after an investigation.
Soon after, Greek leaders announced plans to sponsor the series of events taking place this week. They also said all of their members would complete online training related to sexual violence education. As of last week, 80% of their members had completed the training.
There have been 13 sexual assaults reported at SDSU since the start of the academic year in August, 2014.

Tuesday, Feb. 17: "My Masculinity Helps" at 5 p.m. at Montezuma Hall. The film will be followed by a round table discussion about the film.
Wednesday, Feb. 18: How We All Can Prevent Sexual Assault at 6 p.m. at Templo Mayor. FratMANers will give a presentation on how the campus can come together to help prevent sexual assault. The presentation will be followed by an open house.
Sexual Violence Resource Expo and a Clothesline Project from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on campus. The latter, which started in Massachusetts in 1990, is a national project to honor survivors of violence by decorating t-shirts with messages and hanging them on a clothesline for all to view.
Members of the SDSU community will also be able to take photographs as part of the No More campaign.
Thursday, Feb. 19: Supporting Survivors, Survivor Stories and a Panel Discussion of Resources at SDSU at 7 p.m. at Montezuma Hall. Jasmin Enriquez, founder of Only with Consent, will open the evening telling her story as a survivor of sexual assault. Following her narrative, there will be a panel of survivors as well as campus resources regarding sexual violence at SDSU.
Monday, Feb. 23: "Miss Representation" film at 7 p.m. at Montezuma Hall followed by a discussion around women in leadership.
