The president of the Los Angeles-based pomegranate juice maker POM Wonderful will be moving south to San Diego to take on a different kind of beverage: craft beer.

Escondido's Stone Brewing on Tuesday named Dominic Engels as its new CEO. That’s after a year-long search to replace co-founder Greg Koch, who will become the company's executive chairman.

“We interviewed a lot of talented people who were interested in this role,” said Steve Wagner, who co-founded Stone Brewing with Koch in 1996 and will remain as company president. “I was personally impressed with Dominic’s accomplishments and we connected right off the bat. He has a great skill set for the role and he is by far the best ‘cultural fit’ of anyone we talked to.”

Engels held different leadership roles at POM Wonderful for more than a decade, according to Stone Brewing. He’s also worked for golf club purveyor Tommy Armour and retailer The Gap.

“Dominic’s experience guiding companies through periods of growth, on a global scale, have us really excited about the future of Stone,” Wagner said.

Stone Brewing is the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States, according to the company.
