An annual study on California female business leaders shows that the glass ceiling for women in business is rising, but said there's lots of work to be done before it shatters.
Amanda Kimball authored the UC Davis study. She said companies that give women leadership opportunities tend to flourish.
"These companies have about three times as much revenue as the average company in our study and nearly 50 percent as much income as well," Kimball said.
The study shows that there is one woman for every eight men among the highest paid executive positions in California. That's up one percentage point over last year.
But women still make up only about 11 percent of executive positions overall. The report suggests companies promote networking and mentoring programs for young women.
The California Legislature passed a resolution this year calling on companies to increase executive gender diversity.
