Protesters opposed to President Trump's executive action on immigration gathered for a demonstration at UC San Diego.
Trump's executive order, which was signed Friday, suspends all refugee entry into the United States for 120 days and bans immigration from seven majority Muslim countries. The order also bans Syrian refugees indefinitely.
“It’s affecting our community in a huge way, I think that’s part of what gets everyone out,” said Joel Goldsmith, a student organizer.
Vida Sadeghi, a UCSD student and daughter of Iranian immigrants, says she feels in limbo. She holds dual citizenship and travels back and forth to Iran to see family.
“There is just a lot of hostility going on right now. It’s not something I want to deal. I’d rather protest from home than go back and risk not being able to come back,” Sadeghi said.
As of Monday morning, more than a thousand people indicated on the UCSD Students Against Muslim Ban Facebook page that they planned to attend.
