Race Matters: America After George Floyd: A PBS NEWSHOUR Special

May 30, 2020 12:30 p.m. On May 25, Minneapolis Police officers arrested Floyd, handcuffed him, then held him down on his stomach while Derek Chauvin put a knee on his neck as Floyd pleaded for breath. George Floyd died soon after. The four officers at the scene have been fired. Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter.

On the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, Judy Woodruff and PBS NEWSHOUR reporters will focus on what has changed, and what hasn’t, since the outrage and protests of last summer, focusing on Minneapolis as well as several other communities around the country that have also seen protests, police killings and hate crimes.

The special will include a look at how the country is grappling with racial inequities through the lens of three cities. With them and a series of experts, we’ll discuss what has changed over the last year and what still needs to be done to create a more equitable future.
