Barnaby is back! Encore Thursdays, Feb. 17 - March 10, 2022 from 10 - 11:30 p.m. on KPBS TV / On Demand
Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and Detective Sergeant Charlie Nelson (Gwilym Lee) investigate murder and mystery as pulp fiction and folk songs from beyond the grave stir up bitter resentments in the surprisingly lethal MIDSOMER MURDERS Season 17.
Armed with his extraordinary intuition and caustic wit, DCI John Barnaby investigates with his partner, DS Charlie Nelson, and the help of Chief Pathologist Dr. Kate Wilding (Tamzin Malleson). Even as the morbid creativity of the murders ramps up, Barnaby and his team are up to the task. This season, Barnaby and his wife Sarah become proud new parents.
After many successful years as John and Tom Barnaby’s stalwart sidekick, Detective Sergeant Ben Jones accepted a promotion and was transferred to Brighton. In his place steps DS Charlie Nelson, who is more decisive than many of his predecessors. He takes initiative and often has things done before being asked by DCI Barnaby. Will his “take charge” demeanor serve him well in dangerous Midsomer, or put him at risk?
Sarah, John’s wife of more than 10 years, is the headmistress of the Causton Comprehensive School in Midsomer county and lives with John and their dog Sykes in a large country cottage. Due to her full-time job, Sarah does not figure as much into her husband’s cases as Joyce Barnaby was with Tom. This season, Sarah and John welcome their new daughter, Betty, to the world!
Dr. Kate Wilding is the chief pathologist at Causton CID, and her confident and no-nonsense approach quickly earns the detectives’ respect. She has her work cut out for her this season, as the killings are more grotesquely creative than ever.
Unfortunately, Season 17 is Tamzin Malleson’s last as on MIDSOMER MURDERS.
