Earlier this year I joined Walter Meyer of Lambda Archives for a walking tour of Hillcrest and its LGBTQ history. Here’s a video postcard I made with highlights of the tour.
Meyer has been doing walking tours of Hillcrest for more than two years. The tour begins at San Diego's first gay bar, The Brass Rail, and then winds its way through Hillcrest ending with the Pride flag. Along the way Meyer explains why San Diego has become such a gay mecca, where to find hidden art and hidden gardens, and the history of various businesses in the area.
