San Diego’s Restaurant Week has become so popular, it’s now held twice a year. The San Diego Performing Arts League, a nonprofit that advocates for performing arts organizations, hopes to create a similar buzz around San Diego’s theater scene.
The league is launching the first San Diego Theatre Week Feb. 22-28.
“Just as Restaurant Week is a week for foodies to explore new culinary options while saving money, our vision for Theatre Week is audience members will take advantage of the opportunity to discover new theatre companies and unforgettable arts experiences," D. Candis Paule, president of the San Diego Performing Arts League, said in a news release.
Many theaters will offer discounts on tickets. A range of theaters are participating — from the larger theaters with pricier tickets, including The Old Globe and La Jolla Playhouse, to smaller companies, including Moxie Theatre and New Village Arts. Dance companies are also participating. Others groups are planning extra programming after shows such as question-and-answer sessions with the casts.
Organizers say the weeklong event is meant to build awareness of San Diego’s diverse theater scene and the range of ticket prices available.
