The chandeliers were melted, the ceiling beams charred and the Christmas tree behind the pulpit looked like something out of the "Nightmare Before Christmas." No one was hurt when fire gutted Old Town Community Church Monday morning. But while the sanctuary can be rebuilt, certain precious things cannot, like the artwork.
Alexander Achacoso is the pastor of the historic church.
"We have some intaglios made by local artist Rose Hanks, Madonna and Child that's totally gone, the stained glass windows broken, the furniture is made by Hans Christian Anderson namesake of the famous author they also were heavily damaged," he said.
The original artists, Hanks and Anderson, have passed away. Achacoso said he's pleased to learn today about certain restorative artists who might be able to bring the character of the little church back to life.
