George Varga, music critic for the U-T, reported on Moody's reaction to the Grammy nomination. "'I am very honored to be nominated for a Grammy Award for the fourth time in my 64-year career,' Moody said, through his wife Linda, who noted that her husband had a 'huge look of surprise' when she told him of his nomination."
Varga also wrote a more comprehensive piece on Moody's career in November when it was announced that Moody has cancer. In it, Varga notes that:
When not asleep or resting, Moody still plays his tenor saxophone and flute several times a week for varying lengths of time, depending on his energy level. He also enjoys listening to music and watching his favorite TV show, 'Dancing with the Stars,' with his wife, a San Diego Realtor.
The NPR Music blog "A Blog Supreme" also has a nice primer on Moody's career where you can hear selected works, from the early "Moods All Frantic", to his signature solo recording of "I'm in the Mood for Love."
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards take place on Feb. 13, 2011.
