An internal document from the CDC indicates that the Delta variant is more transmissible than initially thought, and that infections from the strain are more severe than that of previous variants.

An internal report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has indicated the Delta variant of COVID-19 results in more severe infections.

These new developments come after the CDC revised its guidance on masking, now saying that masks should be worn at all times in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

Dr. Eric Topol is the Director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in La Jolla.

"The problem we've had consistently in the pandemic is that well after we could take proactive actions, then we finally wake up," Topol said. "We knew, exactly, that every ten days Delta was going to double - we've done nothing until it's gotten to the point that it's at now."

Topol joined Midday Edition on Friday with his takeaways on the new data.
