"Forest bathing" is credited with helping people maintain health and wellness.

"It is just being out in nature, but for me it comes with the intention. The intention to slow down, to awaken your senses and to go there knowing the healing benefits of nature," said Julia Plevin, the author of a how-to book on forest bathing.

Plevin says the practice, which comes from Japan, saved her life.

She will be speaking about her book, “The Healing Magic of Forest Bathing: Finding Calm, Creativity, and Connection in the Natural World,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Warwick's in La Jolla.

Plevin joins Midday Edition to discuss the benefits of forest bathing.
