Imagine living in a community where the air you breath causes high rates of cancer and asthma. For years that’s been the reality for places like Barrio Logan and National City, where toxic air pollution has become an unwelcome part of life.
Now, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the state is stepping in with millions of dollars in funding to help clean up the polluted air. It's part of a statewide effort called the Community Air Protection Program that specifically targets disadvantaged communities.
Joshua Emerson Smith covers the environment for The San Diego Union-Tribune. He joins Midday Edition Monday with more on the plans to clean the air.
