Mexico is experiencing unprecedented levels of gun violence. But the majority of the guns in Mexico are not from Mexico.

In fact, Mexico has just one gun store in the entire country. It sells an average of 38 guns a day. Meanwhile, an estimated 580 guns flow daily into Mexico from the U.S.

For years, Mexican leaders have stressed the need to combat gun trafficking from the north and now gun control advocates in the U.S. have started to highlight the impact of U.S. gun laws on Mexico and other countries. Both are calling for stricter U.S. gun laws.

Kate Linthicum, a Los Angeles Times correspondent in Mexico City, joins Midday Edition Wednesday to discuss how U.S. gun laws compared to gun laws in Mexico and the push to stem the illegal flow of guns across the U.S.-Mexico border.
